ABOUT

“La Pursé,” a short film that combines horror and fantasy. The film, which takes place in a quiet neighborhood, tells the story of two octogenarian neighbors and a hungry cat. Mr. Badú is a taxidermist with questionable taste who is madly in love with his neighbor, Ms. Aurélia, a nearsighted and absent-minded lady, the owner of a poor cat on the brink of starvation.

TECHNICAL INFO

This project took a while to be finished, since it was a side project inside Lobo.

It blends practical effects with CGI. Mostly, all the sets are practical, and we ended up matchmoving the camera movements. This itself prove to be a challenge, since the defocused nature of the overall look.
Danilo Enoki was the CG Sup in the first year. Even though he was too busy with internal projects, he was able to capture HDRI panoramic images of the set, which made lighting WAY easier. He supervised the initial concept/modeling processes, worked on the matchmoving and started working on LookDev of props.

As Danilo stepped out the project, it was handled to me. In the end, aside the “CG Supervisory” duties (managing the team, making sure everything meets the expectations etc.), throughout the project, I ended up making a ton of stuff that are not listed in the credits. Here is a simple list of the tasks:

  • Matchmoving a handful of shots
  • Lookdev and texture creation/ optimization of the characters
  • Animation and correction of already animated shots
  • Fluid FX simulation (blood) – This was later enhanced and optimized by Ale Eschenbach
  • Asset organization and optimizations
  • Lighting. At this time, I was able to prelight every shot, and lighting colleagues begun to join to share the lighting task.

My contribution ended in the beginning of 2020, after 1,5 years in the role for this project. After this I have no idea what happened. What I know is that Ale Eschenbach picked up from where I left.

It’s amazing seeing this short on air and receiving the praise it deserves, and I’m really proud and honored to be part of the team.
